After much deliberation on the style, it's been months since getting a peek at the dress. Trying on the dress for the first time can be an emotional but exciting experience! Rare is the case when a bride won't need some sort of alterations for her dress, so let's prepare.
- Expect anywhere from between 2-4 fittings depending on the place where you purchased the dress. The first fitting is typically 5-8 weeks before the wedding date.
- Skip wearing makeup to prevent getting anything on your gown. Remember to also either limit or give enough time for absorption when it comes to lotions and perfumes - these too can harm your gown.
- Undergarments are the cornerstone for the fitting - bring all of these exact garments with you to your fittings. Skipping this could cause the alterations to be 'off' for your big day. This even includes hose if you plan on wearing that, too.
- Don't forget the shoes! Having the exact shoes - not just a pair in the same height - will ensure that you get to walk (not trip!) down the aisle. When trying on the dress, walk as you'll be walking down the aisle with proper posture
- Bring your bustler to your final fitting so that she can be prepared and aware of how the darn thing works.
- Be sure to try your dress on after ALL of the alterations have been completed, even if it's just a small one that has been made before your final fitting.
- Once you get the gown home, be sure to keep it away from pets, and extreme temperatures - humid basements aren't dress friendly either!
Didn't go the traditional gown route and preparing to strut your stuff in a suit, casual beach dress or something that suites your personality? Having a flawlessly fitted garment will ensure that you feel confident as you walk down the aisle. Try on your attire as your wedding date draws near and allow yourself ample time in the event you'll need alterations, too.
xoxo.
